Day 2 in Dubai

Today we took the hop on hop off bus around Dubai.  The city is a series of shopping malls that contain restaurants, entertainment facilities, cinemas, top brand clothes and all sorts of activities for children.  The malls are all air - conditioned and so are very popular.  Designer clothes are relatively cheap because there is no tax.  We had a three - course meal for $10 each with tax and service charges included.  Some of the malls have a theme such as the Wafi mall that is Egyptian in style with pyramids, Cleopatra’s needle and statues of pharaohs and the sphinx. The Dubai mall contains the dancing fountain.  This looks spectacular as the water moves to Arabic music in front of the Burj Khalifa.  There is also an Olympic ice rink here, an aquarium with walls about 10 metres high and the most fascinating lolly shop I have ever seen.  We visited Atlantis on the Palms.  To reach this resort, which is also a water theme park based on the idea of the lost city of Atlantis, we had to travel under water through the trunk of the palm tree to the palm fronds, which contained the theme park and hotel.  At the Jumeirah public beach we saw the Burj al Arab hotel, which looks like the sail of a ship.  The architecture in Dubai is very different, and quite stunning.  The Jumeirah Beach park also contains a theme park for children.  The children can also ride in a train around the huge park.  The beaches were very clean and had white sand as in Australia.  We enjoyed a cruise on a Dhow on Dubai Creek.  This creek empties into the Arabian Gulf but just goes 40 km inland.  It is not what we would call a creek, but rather more like a lagoon.  Many of the things we saw on the trip need a whole day to enjoy and explore completely.  We did not have time to do Dubai justice, but we would definitely love to come back.
