Day 3 - Dubai to Perugia

This was a very long day.  We were picked up from our hotel by a very swish limousine at 7.00am which was 5.00 am Rome time.  We had a pleasant flight to Fiumicino airport and then caught the train into Rome.  We had to wait here for three hours for the next train to Perugia.  It was wonderful to get off the train in Perugia and find Laura Healy waiting to meet us.  She had devised a fun entrance into Perugia for us.  We bought a ticket on the mini metro which is a very small one carriage monorail which takes you about half way up the mountain where the old part of the city is situated.  Then we went up three sets of very steep escalators and then walked for about five minutes uphill to reach our Primavera hotel.  The hotel is great.  It is very close to the centre of town and about 10 minutes walk from Laura's apartment.  The three of us went out for a late dinner - about 10 pm - The Italians do not eat before 8.30 pm so we were able to take our pick of restaurants.  After our meal the waiter bought us a large bowl of cherries for free.  He said the cherries were from their own tree.  Our hotel is just beautiful.  It is small and is run by a most personable lady called Valentina.  We have a view over the hills and valleys of Perugia and at night one of our windows completely surrounds the full moon like a picture frame.  I was so happy to get into bed after a very long day, but knew there was no sleep in the next morning because Laura said she would meet us at 7.15 for the trip to Orvieto.
